A client unknowingly had their business critical single server running on Raid 0 and bare metal. When a server is running in Raid 0, if any one of the hard drives (or SSDs) fails, then all data is lost. This would have resulted in a loss of 8 HDDs worth of data. This was noticed during an audit and we were able to schedule a time to take the server offline (outside of normal business hours) and migrate it to a more secure system using Raidz2. Raidz2 allows for up to two disks of fault tolerance. While we had it offline, we also made a virtualized environment with snapshot backups (quick way to restore to a previous day) and built redundancy with their old server hardware.
